FORM Design Group Architects

Form Design Group

Form Design Group is a group of architects founded in 1974, by Graham Lobb, which currently is Form Director. And through a commitment to design has led the practice to consistently deliver appropriate solutions and award winning buildings throughout the south west.

Early work in housing and defence projects included the Submarine Refit Complex, Devonport, Naval Weapons Engineering Facility, Exeter, Latchbrook Masterplan, Saltash and a variety of urban projects both in the west country and London.

Urban Design is a key skill. Masterplans have been prepared for Sutton Harbour, the Stonehouse Peninsula, and East Quays in Plymouth. Plymouth Chamber of Commerce has recently commissioned a study for Plymouth Station and the adjacent North Cross area to deliver a new mixed-use commercial district within the city centre. These projects, and buildings resulting from them, continue to make a significant contribution to the regeneration of the City. Graham has advised South West Water on the ‘Clean Sweep’ coastal treatment strategy for Devon and Cornwall, the largest environmental programme of its type. Designing in sensitive locations remains central to the work of the practice with projects being undertaken in the Jurassic Coast and Bath World Heritage Sites, Devonport’s South Yard Conservation Area, and Penzance and Newquay waterfronts.

Visual Aspects and Content

Using a lot of gray, white and dark green as the main color. Gray as main background, white as text color, and dark green as secondary background. There some black for the text color which is the navigation bar.

It feels so professional as we browse the web page, a lot of explanation for the project including some images, very organized as everything is in some kind of grid line. There is a lot of negative space, which create the feeling of emptiness.

Didn't have any animation, and also advertisement. Simple design, yet very professional.

Structure and Layout about the web page

Consistency navigation bar location throughout all pages, small logo that sometimes at the top right corner or down right corner to go back to homepage. All Project is archived based on categories and award winning. There some picture change at the main page every 2-3 seconds.

Navigation through the web page

Main navigation bar which is the menu for all the things inside this web page. This makes easier browsing experience through web pages. There also a sub navigation bar to search deeper within. 2 simple button -up and down - to scroll the explanation page.

Technicality

Images is small, low resolution and fast to load, but no animation - only images being swapped - no video or advertisement, everything is simple and easy to find, external link to another web page is a bit unclear and there is no explanation about the other web page.

Target Audience

Mostly public that want to get the building designed, and any professional partnership.

My Thought

Very professional web page, like a documentation.
The color is plain, a lot of negative space, leaving cold but serious feeling.
A bit boring, because there is no animation, no advertisement, it is very simple web page and there still a lot  possibility for improvement.
